Our international student won the Second Prize in the 4th National Recitation Competition of Chinese Classics

Recently, the list of winners for the 4th National Recitation Competition of Chinese Classics, "Recite China" Classic Recitation Competition, organized by the Ministry of Education and the National Language and Writing Committee, was announced. Our Equatorial Guinean international student, Micha, performed exceptionally well and eventually achieved the Second Prize (7th place nationwide), marking the best result achieved by our university's international students in this competition. Additionally, teachers Wang Qi and Pan Ying from the School of Overseas Education received the Outstanding Supervising Teacher Award. This is also the highest honor currently obtained by any university in our province in this competition.

The 4th National Recitation Competition of Chinese Classics, with the theme "Classics Building Dreams for the Future," showcased the charm of Chinese characters and promoted Chinese excellent culture through various forms of language expression such as recitation, interpretation, calligraphy, and seal engraving. The competition was divided into four categories: "Recite China" Classic Recitation Competition, "Educate China" Poetry Explanation Competition, "Write China" Chinese Calligraphy Competition, and "Imprint China" Teacher-Student Seal Engraving Competition.

The School of Overseas Education attached great importance to this competition and actively provided guidance and assistance to the participating students. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the two selected teachers from the school overcame the difficulties encountered during the preparation phase, demonstrating their dedication by voluntarily requesting to stay on campus to provide guidance and support to the contestants. They worked diligently to help the participants prepare for the competition, aiming to achieve outstanding results and bring honor to our university.

During the intensive coaching sessions from March to May 2022, there was significant improvement in the Chinese language proficiency of international student Micha. He gained a deeper understanding and appreciation of the background and meanings of the works he prepared for the competition. After the provincial preliminary competition, national preliminary competition, and national finals, Micha's recitation piece titled "Youthful China" obtained the first place in Jiangxi. In the national finals, the participants were required to draw lots to determine their recitation pieces, which were then showcased through live streaming, followed by expert evaluations. Under pressure, Micha quickly familiarized himself with the selected piece "To the Oak Tree," and with solid language skills, confident improvisation, and a profound understanding of Chinese poetry, he received high praise from the expert judges. In the end, he achieved an impressive 7th place and won the Second Prize in the competition.

It is reported that there were nearly 200 entries in the international student category of the national "Recite China" Classic Recitation Competition, and in the end, five first prizes, ten second prizes, fifteen third prizes, and thirty excellence awards were awarded.

In recent years, our university's international students have achieved remarkable results in various Chinese recitation and writing competitions, as well as the Jiangxi Provincial Chinese Language Competition for Foreign Students. The School of Overseas Education adheres to the concept of "promoting learning and training through competitions" and actively organizes international students to participate in various Chinese language events, comprehensively enhancing their oral expression and classical literature reading abilities, and fostering their love for the Chinese language and culture.
